Visual Arts Alumni Guest Artist Panel
Visual Arts Department alumni Lainey Davidson ('17), Kevin Hopkins ('18), and Benjamin Merritt ('15) will return to campus for a special guest panel in honor of the school's 25th Anniversary! They will share reflections on their experience as artists both during and after their time at the Governor's School, answer audience questions, and more!

The Visual Arts Department presents this year's Senior Drawing Exhibition, featuring a collection of large format drawings from each member of the senior class. Alumni Guest Artist: Robert Young, saxophone, and Dmitri Vorobiev, piano
Music alum Robert Young ('02) returns to Smith Recital Hall for a special performance featuring captivating saxophone and piano music by Black and women composers. Joined by pianist Dmitri Vorobiev, Dr. Young will showcase an inspiring program that celebrates these exceptional voices in music. Both musicians are faculty members at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

Michael Lowenstern is widely recognized as one of the most innovative bass clarinetists in the world, and has performed, recorded, and toured as a soloist and with ensembles of every variety. HERO: A Film Exhibition and Filmmaker Q&A
Join us for a screening of the first act of the feature film, HERO, followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers including director Dustin Whitehead. Hero was produced as part of the SC Film Commission initiative “Get on Set” and stars Govie Drama alumnus Anthony Currie. Get on Set is a film training partnership wherein Local Cinema Studios partners with the South Carolina Film commission and the University of South Carolina to produce a feature length film or pilot in SC.
Dustin Whitehead is an actor and filmmaker from Chicago IL. Dustin can be seen in numerous independent films as well as the nationally televised shows Chicago PD, Chicago Fire, and Your Worst Nightmare. His most recent feature film, Bruiser, in which he played the lead role, co-wrote, and co-produced played at the Sarasota Film Festival, The Spirit of independence Film Festival in London, The Silent River Film Festival in LA (*Best Actor Award), and the Southeastern Film Festival. Dustin is a co-founder and Artistic Director of Local Cinema Studios, a non-profit that bridges the gap for students from academia into the industry. He is currently teaching acting at The University of South Carolina. He received his BFA in Performance from Jacksonville University and MFA in Acting from The Theatre School at DePaul University. He also studied filmmaking in Singapore at NYU Tisch Asia.
