Make Thick My Blood: An Appalachian Retelling of Shakespeare's Macbeth

Adapted and directed by Anne Tromsness. Original Music by Candace Dickinson

This production, an adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies, places enhanced focus on the motivations, motives, and inner workings of Lady Macbeth, as part of one of literary history’s most bloody, notorious couples. Reimagined in rural Southern Appalachia in the 1930’s, the play features original music, and Shakespeare’s text configured in a new light. The war is transposed to a feud between neighboring factions and the Weird Sisters to healers caught between the allure of the sacred and the profane, as the eponymous couple’s world expands and contracts between love, loss, and ambition, most violently pursued.

This event is free and open to the public. Reserve your ticket here two weeks before the performance.
